Creativity & Spirituality

Raegen Carter is a 2025 graduate of Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. As a multidisciplinary artist, Carter hails from Annapolis, MD, where she was raised in a vibrant household of eight by her parents and grandmother. Her journey into art began as a powerful form of expression during a tumultuous time in her life, when her father was placed in a medically induced coma. Art became her sanctuary and a means of navigating the complexities of her emotions.

As she begins her MPS at MICA in Fall of 2025, Carter's practice is deeply influenced by her exploration of human interaction, particularly through a spiritual lens. This interest is rooted in her passion for cultural anthropology, which fuels her ongoing research into how spirituality intersects with human connections.

Drawing from her own life experiences, as well as her relationships with family and friends, she seeks to understand and depict the nuances of these interactions. Her work is an evolving reflection of these themes, from the dynamic relationships she studies to her personal connection with God. Beyond her artistic practice, Carter is committed to using her craft to uplift her community. Through art, she aspires to help people develop healthy emotional and mental outlets, providing them with tools for self-expression and well-being. Carter's work is a testament to the power of art as both a personal and communal healing practice bridging the spiritual, emotional, and cultural realms to foster deeper understanding and growth.
